Director of Bands

Dr. William Woodworth is looking to return to Las Vegas High School for his second year as the director of bands l in 2011. Dr. Woodworth will be in his 11th year as a music educator during the 2011-2012 school year. A native of Wyoming, Dr. Woodworth graduated with his Bachelors of Music Education in 2001 from the University of Wyoming. In 2005, he graduated with his Masters of Music from UNLV, and in 2009, he earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree with an emphasis in band conducting from UNLV.

Dr. Woodworth's first teaching assignment after graduating from the University of Wyoming was a year teaching four elementary music programs in and around Fort Collins, Colorado. His second teaching assignment was as an assistant band director of a major band program in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After teaching in Sioux Falls, Dr. Woodworth served as a UNLV Graduate Assistant for the band program, focusing primarily on the athletic bands from 2003 to 2005.  Dr. Woodworth also spent several years as UNLV's primary drill writer for the Star of Nevada Marching Band during and after his tenure as a Graduate Assistant, and has written several musical arrangements that the Star of Nevada Marching Band and Runnin’ Rebel Pep Band still play to this day.

Throughout the last five years, Dr. Woodworth was the Director of Bands at Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. At Durango, Dr. Woodworth was responsible for turning around a struggling program of 25 band students, into a program of great achievement and success! Dr. Woodworth led Durango to back to back Las Vegas Invitational Finals Performances in 2008 and 2009, and under his leadership, Durango ended the 2009 marching season finishing 9th place in Finals at the Sierra Vista Sounds Across the Valley Marching Competition. Dr. Woodworth was also responsible for building a solid concert and jazz program at Durango, and maintained the growth and success of the colorguard and percussion programs during his tenure as director of bands with the assistance of his valuable colorguard and percussion staff.

Dr. Woodworth is also an accomplished composer, arranger and drill writer, having written drill and arrangements for several groups across the United States. He also is an adjudicator, and will be serving as one of the adjudicators for the upcoming Boulder City High School Marching Band Invitational, and the 2010 Wyoming State Marching Band Festival in Casper, Wyoming.

Dr. Woodworth also has an extensive history of performing with several different musical ensembles, including performing as a member of the contra-line with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps of Casper, Wyoming in 1995. Dr. Woodworth was also co-drum major of the University of Wyoming Western Thunder Marching Band in 1999 and 2000.

Dr. Woodworth is extremely excited about returning as the Director of Bands at Las Vegas High School, and he is ready to continue to build and carry on the great traditions of excellence of the LVHS Band Program!
